Description: In May 1812, a two-horse race was underway to see who would become Staffordshire's next Member of Parliament.
Walhouse vs. Wrottesley
This notice favours the Tory candidate, Mr. Walhouse, at the expense of Sir John Wrottesley.
The authors effectively dismiss Wrottesley as a sort of spin-doctor, avoiding the controversial buzz word "Reform" - which they claim would be "too strong for our Country Stomachs."
Instead he opted for the phrase "A full and fair representation of the people in Parliament."
Because the authors feared dangerous democratic ideas, they urge electors to vote for Walhouse.
Unlike the devious Wrottesley, Walhouse is given a glowing write-up as "an honest Ned."
