Case of the Company of Proprietors of the Navigation from the Trent to the Mersey - Pamphlet from the Enoch Wood scrapbook
Introduction: Case of the Company of Proprietors of the Navigation from the Trent to the Mersey - Pamphlet from the Enoch Wood scrapbook

Date: 29 March 1796

Description: Canals were among the most impressive - not to mention controversial - engineering enterprises of the 18th century.

In this pamphlet, the Trent and Mersey Canal Company outline their case for creating a new branch canal to Leek, as well as a new reservoir near the town.

Although the company has the rights to feed their canals using brooks and streams, they argue that this practice stands to damage local industry.
